Baby don’t hurt… oh sorry. This Sunday we are going to be looking at Express Truth #5, “Just as God has treated me with love, I treat others with love.” You may notice that this is a variation of the golden rule which says, “treat others the way you want to be treated,” which comes from Jesus’ sermon on the mount in Matthew 7. Or as we learned last week in the adult service, influence others with the love you received from God.
But what is love? In 2 Samuel 23, we see David’s men risking their lives to get him a drink of water and in John 15 Jesus says that no one has received greater love than the one whose friend has laid their life down for them. So how can we daily lay down our lives for others just as David’s men did? We will be answering this question together as we explore that this type of love isn’t simply an emotion, but an act of the will.
